Lowe's integration overview

Lowe’s is the second-largest hardware chain in the USA, behind rival Home Depot and ahead of Menards. It’s also the second-largest hardware chain in the world, surpassing European retailers such as B&Q, OBI and Leroy Merlin. It has a long-standing reputation for providing DIY enthusiasts with everything they need for home-improvement projects, from paint to tools to flooring to garden essentials.

The history of Lowe’s dates back to North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1921, when Lucius Lowe launched a general merchandise store called North Wilkesboro Hardware. The store thrived, and when Lucius died in 1940, his daughter Ruth inherited the business and sold it to her brother, Jim. Ruth kept the store running while her husband Carl Buchan and Jim both served in World War II.

When Jim returned, he took on Carl as a partner and the company focused on selling hardware to capitalize on the postwar construction boom. By buying directly from manufacturers, they cut costs and passed savings to customers.

The store continued to grow, becoming a chain in 1949 and expanding to 15 stores by 1960. Carl Buchan became the sole owner in 1952 and after his death in 1960, the company went public as Lowe’s Companies Inc.

Today, it boasts over 2,100 home improvement and hardware stores across North America and has expanded its ecommerce capabilities to serve an increasingly online customer base. Lowe’s offers shoppers the option of in-store pickup, direct shipping and digital browsing, all in one seamless operation.

Selling on Lowe’s means gaining access to a broad, loyal customer base looking for quality products in decor, tools, home renovation and seasonal goods.
